Finding healthy eatery’s in Valencia has been different than the rest of my travels. So far I’ve been in a lot of urban settings and although Valencia is the third biggest city in Spain is traditional in a lot of ways, including the food.

I’ve so enjoyed the more traditional experiences, churros and hot chocolate, the classic Spanish rice dish Paella, and all the different tapas and sangrias, and the Jugo de Valencia, which is pretty much Valencia’s famed orange juice topped off with whatever alcohol is cheapest. But this list is a compilation of the more unique cafes I discovered in the last two week.

Aloha Vegan Cafe is a tiny to-go spot in the old part of Valencia. The whole menu is vegan, a rare find in Spain.

I tried a veggie burger which was a great lunch on the go and with Valencia’s sunny weather it’s perfect to grab some take away and wander around the old streets or the sprawling parks. They also offer beautiful vegan cakes, that are freshly baked and change every few days. Vegan cakes that decadent and few and far between and I loved that they were freshly baked by locals.

Empanadas Caserss was another great find. I don’t think I’ve very really appreciated empanadas before and the versatility of what you can put in them. Empanadas are a classic savory Spanish pastry and this bakery offered a whole range, from pumpkin and feta, to carrot and mushrooms and even one with a mystery filling. The cafe had a great local vibe but also kept up with modern trends, offering a range of vegan empanadas.

Almalibre is an amazing açaí bar, offering a vegan menu with a range of veggie bowls and burgers as well. They had a lovely interior design making it a great spot to just hangout, white walls, pastel highlights hanging lights and comfy pillows.

You can pretty much customize your açaí bowl; pick a size and then add your toppings. Goji berries, chocolate chips, coconut shavings, peanut butter and banana. Their açaí bowls feel like the most decadent dessert and yet they’re filled antioxidants and enzymes and topped with superfoods. They also have locations in Barcelona and Miami, working out perfect for me as Barcelona is my next stop.
